Leadership and Governance Facilitation

For the conversations that shape what comes next

Some leadership challenges require more than individual reflection. They require a group to step out of day-to-day demands, surface different perspectives, make choices, and establish shared direction.

Miyasato Leadership Practice designs and facilitates focused conversations for public governing bodies, corporate boards, and executive leadership teams. Engagements may include retreats and working sessions focused on strategic priorities, organizational values, leadership alignment, governance, and navigating change.

My approach is grounded in an understanding that governance takes place within a particular context. Public governing bodies must do much of their work in the public eye—balancing different constituencies, political perspectives, legal and fiscal constraints, and the distinct roles of elected officials and professional staff. Corporate boards face different dynamics involving fiduciary oversight, board-management relationships, competing perspectives, and the responsibility to exercise sound collective judgment.

Drawing on nearly three decades in local government leadership—including 13 years as a County Executive Officer—as well as experience in corporate board governance as an NACD Certified Director, I bring both perspectives to the work.

Each engagement is designed around the organization, its leadership, and the decisions it needs to make. Depending on the need, the process may include individual interviews, background review, session design, facilitation, and synthesis of key decisions, areas of alignment, and next steps.
